Stafford, Texas police officer Ann Carrizales was shot twice while handling what she believed would be a routine traffic stop. The shooting happened on Saturday around three in the morning. Officer Ann Carrizales was shot twice, once in the chest and once in the face. There were two other men in the car with the gunman. After shooting the officer the gunman drove off but Carrizales would not let them get away. Carrizales, a former marine and amateur boxer told NBC that her children gave her the strength to pursue the car despite her injuries.

"It wasn't an option for me to give up," Carrizales said to NBC. "I had to stay in that fight because I am a mom and they shot and they were absolutely not going to get away with that, because I will do everything I can to come home to my children every day." Carrizales would not let the fact that she was injured and bleeding from stopping her from going after her assailants. Carrizales jumped back in her car and chased the shooter for 20-miles.

SPD Lt. Dustin Claborn spoke with ABC about officer Carrizales and praised her for her actions. "I think it speaks highly of her character, her fortitude," Claborn said. As the chase continued officer Carrizales called for backup. The chase ended with the shooter, 21-year-old Sergio Francisco Rodriquez was taken into custody but the two other men in the car were able to get away. Police are still looking for them. At a press conference Carrizales stood with her husband and asked that anyone with information call Houston Crimestoppers.

"I was born to be a protector," Carrizales said at the press conference. "If you can do anything to help in this case, you would be protecting the protectors." "I hope you can identify with me on that level," Carrizales said after talking about her family. The officer is recovering at home with her family. Reports say the bullet proof vest Carrizales was wearing saved her life.
