Texas plans to execute a man on Thursday for the 2008 beating death of his 13-month-old daughter.
Back then, Blaine Milam, 35, murdered Amora Carson as part of an "exorcism" meant to expel demons from her body, NBC News reported. Milam is scheduled to die by lethal injection on Thursday evening.
The Texas Tribune reported that when police arrived Amora Carson's body showed signs of physical and sexual abuse, including bite marks on her body.
The newspaper added that most of Milam's legal appeals have focused on his intellectual disability. Also, that the bite-mark science used during the trial was later debunked.
Milam's current application for a stay of execution states that "demonstrably unreliable and prejudicial forensic evidence" was used by prosecutors, The Texas Tribune added. The application also asserts that no firm motive was established for the crime.
According to NBC News, Milam has claimed that it was his then-girlfriend, Jesseca Carson, who claimed the girl was possessed and he blamed her for the child's death.
Jesseca Carson was tried separately, found guilty, and sentenced to life in prison without parole. Both were 18 at the time of the crime.
Prosecutors have claimed it was Milam who beat the child with a hammer, bit her, strangled her and mutilated her over a period of 30 hours. The child had some many injuries that a specific cause of death could not be determined, NBC News reported.
