Mexico is well aware of the situation being experienced by Thailand, which this morning was declared a coup. The foreign ministry is ready to provide any aid required by the Mexican community in Thailand, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported on Thursday. "Our embassy @ EmbaMexTai is aware of the situation and prepared to provide the necessary care to Mexicans in #Thailand," tweeted José Antonio Meade, Mexico's Secretary of Foreign Affairs.

José Antonio Meade asked Mexicans requiring assistance to contact the offices of the Mexican Embassy and register with the Registration System for Mexicans Abroad . After the coup in Thailand, the Army implemented a strict curfew, suspended the Constitution and prohibited radio and television broadcast, as well as banning public gatherings and arresting several members of the government and protest leaders. The curfew applies from 10PMto 5AM: the Bangkok subway stopped operating one hour before the curfew.

The National Council for Peace and Order, the official name of the military junta ordered the closure of all schools until Sunday. The army chief Prayuth Chan- Ocha, decided on Thursday to take power after the rival political factions were unable to reach an agreement to resolve the political crisis that had been occurring in the Asian nation . The political crisis began in Thailand last fall with demonstrations calling for the resignation of the prime minister, Yingluck Shinawatra, sister of Thaksin Shinawatra , whom critics accused of running the government from exile.
