President Donald Trump is calling for the criminal prosecution of longtime political adversary, Senator Adam Schiff, accusing the California democrat of mortgage fraud.
In a post on Truth Social Tuesday morning, Trump claimed that Fannie Mae's Financial Crimes Division had concluded Schiff obtained a cheaper mortgage by falsely designating his Maryland property as his primary residence, despite serving as a congressman from California at the time.
"I have always suspected Shifty Adam Schiff was a scam artist," Trump wrote. "Mortgage Fraud is very serious, and CROOKED Adam Schiff (now a Senator) needs to be brought to justice."
According to Trump, the alleged fraud began with a refinancing of Schiff's Maryland property in 2009 and continued until the home was correctly listed as a second residence in 2020.
Schiff, who represented California in the US House for over two decades before winning a Senate seat last year, has not yet responded publicly to Trump's accusations.
The post marks the latest escalation in Trump's ongoing feud with Schiff, who played a prominent role in Trump's first impeachment and has remained a frequent target of the president's attacks.
No official investigation or charges against Schiff have been announced.
