President Trump stirred another controversy when he vehemently denied claims that he called U.S. soldiers “losers” and “suckers” during a 2018 trip to Paris.

The allegations against Trump were made by the “Atlantic”, as the media outlet further reported that the president outrightly refused to pay a visit to the Aisne-Marne American Cemetery as he feared that the heavy downpour would mess with his hair.

“Why should I go to that cemetery? It’s filled with losers,” said Trump to senior staff members in the morning the trip was scheduled to take place. The report attributed the information to “four people with first-hand knowledge of the discussion that day” but failed to identify the source. What’s more, the publication alleged that Trump called the marines who died at Belleau Wood “suckers,” and thumbed his nose at the event and remarked, “Who were the good guys in this war?”

Two years later, Trump decided to address the controversy and denied the aforementioned accusations at a press briefing on Thursday. The president slammed the story as a “disgrace” and questioned its authenticity. He took to Twitter to clarify his stance and stated that he “never called our great fallen soldiers anything other than HEROES.”

The inflammatory report on the “Atlantic” categorically mentioned Trump's repeated criticisms of the late Sen. John McCain, both on his 2016 campaign trail and after the senator died of brain cancer in August 2018. While Trump admitted to having disagreed with McCain on multiple occasions, he maintained that he wholeheartedly approved the late senator’s funeral as he knew it was well deserved.

“I was never a big fan of John McCain, disagreed with him on many things including ridiculous endless wars and the lack of success he had in dealing with the VA and our great Vets, but the lowering of our Nations American Flags, and the first-class funeral he was given by our Country, had to be approved by me, as President, & I did so without hesitation or complaint,” Trump tweeted on Thursday.

"Quite the contrary, I felt it was well deserved. I even sent Air Force One to bring his body, in a casket, from Arizona to Washington. It was my honor to do so. Also, I never called John a loser and swear on whatever, or whoever, I was asked to swear on, that I never called our great fallen soldiers anything other than HEROES. This is more made up Fake News given by disgusting & jealous failures in a disgraceful attempt to influence the 2020 Election!” he added.

Trump’s infamous icy relationship with McCain can be traced to decades ago, when back in 1999; Trump made headlines after questioning whether or not the senator was a war hero during an explosive interview.
