The President appeared "unnerved" after receiving the cold shoulder from a woman to whom he awarded the first-ever Medal of Sacrifice in honor of her late father.
President Donald Trump presented Alexandria Diaz with one of three Medals of Sacrifice in a first-ever ceremony held in the White House on Monday. Diaz's father, Palm Beach Deputy Sheriff Ignacio "Dan" Diaz, and two of his colleagues, Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office Corporal Luis Paez and and Deputy Sheriff Ralph "Butch" Waller, died after they were struck by a vehicle while on duty in November 2024, CBS 12 News reported.
Diaz went viral after appearing noticeably unenthusiastic while accepting a medal from Trump. In a TikTok video shared Tuesday, the president appeared visibly confused, casting several side glances at Diaz and attempting to put his arm around her.
Diaz, who remained stoic, later shared her response in a follow-up video.
"I literally just landed back home and I got a text from my friend that was like 'you're going viral' and I was like 'God no,'" Diaz shared.
She clarified that she is neither a Republican nor a police officer and attended the event solely to support her father.
"It was a huge news story," Diaz continued. "That's also why Trump was so involved because it was in Palm Beach," she stated, before adding, "Free Palestine."
Most TikTok users responded with admiration for Diaz, with many expressing amusement at how visibly uncomfortable Trump appeared during the interaction.
"He's very unnerved by her demeanor, if not frankly confused. Well done," one TikToker commented.
"She is beauty, she is grace. SHE is Miss United States," another joked.
"My favorite part is that he keeps looking at her completely baffled that she's not overjoyed to be in his presence lmao," a third added.
