A Turkish man has been arrested for premeditated murder, pushing his wife off a cliff after posing for selfies. The man was identified as 40-year-old Hakan Aysal. He pushed his wife, Semra Aysal off a cliff while vacationing in Butterfly Valley in Mugla, Turkey.

The 32-year-old wife was also seven months pregnant at the time of the incident. Both died instantly when they fell 1,000 feet after taking pictures, The Sun reported.

Prosecutors branded the incident as premeditated and not an accident after learning that Hakan had tried to collect the life insurance policy of his wife. Semra was insured for worth 400,000 Turkish lira, or about $57,000. The 42-year-old failed to cash in due to the police investigation.

It appears this was what Hakan was after from the start. Semra’s brother, Naim Yolcu, explained how the 42-year-old hardly showed any emotion after the death of his sister.

“When we went to the Forensic Medicine Institute to get the body, Hakan was sitting in the car,” recalled Yoluc during a video interview in court,” Yolcu stated. “My family and I were destroyed, but Hakan did not even appear sad.”

Yolcu added how her sister was against taking out loans. It turns out that the 32-year-old had three loans taken by Hakan before the latest devious plan.

"My sister was always against taking out loans. However, after she died, we learned that she had three loans taken by Hakan on behalf of my sister,” the victim’s brother.

Also backing the claim that Hakan had planned it all was the fact that both sat on top of the cliff for three hours. The husband allegedly waited until the coast was clear before he deliberately pushed Samra off the cliff.

However, Aysal is telling another story. He alleges that the three other insurance premiums taken out were because he was into extreme sports. Aysal also denied having any knowledge of his wife’s life insurance.

Lastly, he denies being responsible for the death of Samra. He claims that he was trying to get his wife’s phone to take a photo before hearing a scream.

"After taking a photo, my wife put the phone in her bag,” Asyal reasoned. "Later she asked me to give her the phone. I got up and then heard my wife scream behind me when I walked a few steps away to get the phone from her bag.”
