Utah County Attorney Jeff Gray announced seven charges against Tyler Robinson regarding the murder of Charlie Kirk. During a press conference broadcast live and surrounded by 20 people, Gray also revealed that he will keep asking for the death penalty.
"I do not take this decision lightly," said Gray and added that Robinson will continue to be held without bail in the county jail.
Tyler Robinson, 22, is being charged with:
- Count 1: Aggravated murder
- Count 2: Felony discharge of a firearm
- Count 3: Obstruction of justice - moving a firearm
- Count 4: Obstruction of justice - disposing of clothing
- Count 5: Witness tampering - telling a roommate to delete text messages
- Count 6: Witness tampering - directing a roommate to stay quiet
- Count 7: Committing violent crime when children are present
The charges come a day after Utah Governor Spencer Cox revealed that Robinson hasn't confessed, which invalidated the statements that he had turned himself in.
In front of Congress, FBI Director Kash Patel revealed that the investigators are talking to a group of 20 people related to the murder, although all authorities are discarding the possibility of charges against anybody else besides Robinson.
During the press conference, Gray also confirmed that Robinson left a note for his transgender roommate, who he was in a relationship with, saying he had the "opportunity to take Kirk out."
Charlie Kirk was killed on September 10, during an event at the campus of Utah Valley University. Robinson was arrested 33 hours later in his parents' home in the city of Washington, also in the state of Utah.
