UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson is currently in self-isolation after being told that he came into contact with someone who tested positive for COVID-19. The British PM has shown no symptoms tied to the virus and the move is more of a precautionary measure.

According to the Associated Press, Johnson will continue to carry out his duties from Downing Street as the country continues its fight against the pandemic.

Johnson met with some lawmakers last Thursday and it was found that one of them had developed coronavirus symptoms. The National Health Service’s Test and Trace system informed him on Sunday of it and recommended that he self-isolate. The meeting lasted for about a half-hour.

With this development, parliamentary authorities are left to undergo some adjustments with Johnson in this situation. Despite being in self-isolation, Johnson still plans to continue to speak to the country during this period.

There remains no official word on how long Johnson will be forced to isolate. Per UK health authorities’ guidelines, the normal quarantine period recommended is 14 days.

It will be recalled that Johnson was hospitalized in April in intensive care for three nights after contracting COVID-19. It was a critical moment for Johnson and the country but the British leader was eventually discharged. He thanked health workers for saving his life after that. However, he also mentioned that for 48 hours during his stay in the hospital, things could have gone either way.

From there, he vowed to work on his fitness and launched a summer campaign to address obesity. Part of that was him admitting that he was too fat when he got ill.

Now, it will be interesting how Johnson and parliamentary authorities can carry on their rule.

As of this writing, there have already been 1,372,884 deaths registered in the UK with 52,026 deaths per Johns Hopkins University.

The UK is dealing with a second wave of the coronavirus, forcing the government to enforce new lockdowns until Dec. 2. England began a one-month lockdown on Nov. 5 with all non-essential shops being closed down as well as pubs, cafes and restaurants except for take-outs, Reuters reported.

Locals are still allowed to go out although only when needed. Houses of worship are also included but open to private prayer.
