“The Walking Dead” has seen quite a number of its lead cast members depart in recent years. The current run of TWD is already missing Steven Yeun’s Glenn Rhee, Lauren Cohan’s Maggie Greene and Andrew Lincoln’s Rick Grimes. Now fans have Danai Gurira’s Michonne Hawthorne reportedly exiting in the upcoming Season 10.

AMC’s hit show also shuffled some of its “missing” characters into its spin-offs, such as Lennie James’ Morgan Jones and Austin Amelio’s Dwight moving to “Fear The Walking Dead.” This action by AMC brings hope for several fan favorites to re-emerge within the series.

In a recent interview, Chandler Riggs sent fans abuzz when he hinted at a possibility of reprising the role of Carl Grimes. Carl’s emotional death in Season 8 came as a surprise to everyone, though it didn’t immediately see Riggs out of the show as his death became a tool for the series to push his father to strive for his son’s dream.

He continued to appear in that season, as if part of a flashback or a vision of his ideal future. Since his departure from the show, several new spin-offs have been announced, which includes an untitled movie trilogy centering on Lincoln’s Rick.

In an interview, Riggs expressed his interest in making an appearance and working again with his in-show father. “I hope so,” he said about starring in “The Walking Dead” movie trilogy. “That would be amazing. It’d be so much fun to get to work with Andy again. That’d be great.”

Carl Grimes’ return would be a problem for the showmakers, though, as it is widely known that he died after being bitten by a walker. His corpse may not have been shown within the series, but the gunshot implying his suicide — as well as the funeral held for him — is evidence enough of his death. However, like his last appearance in the television series, he may be shown as a flashback, a vision or a dream.

Details for the currently untitled TWD movie trilogy are yet to be divulged, apart from its release date, which is set for next year. Fans may expect more clues in October, with the premiere of “The Walking Dead” Season 10.
