Yankees legendary retired closer Mariano Rivera is loved by the people in New York and Yankees fans around the world, also obviously in his native country of Panama. Today the best closer to ever play the game was honored outside of Yankee Stadium and it was an easy way to pay tribute to a player of his caliber. River Avenue runs past Yankee Stadium in the Bronx. Given the fact that former Yankees closer Mariano Rivera is the greatest closer in baseball history, it made sense to add an “a.”

River Avenue is now Rivera Avenue. He will always be remembered by fans around the game as the greatest relief pitcher. And now he has an avenue renamed after him to remind everyone just how great he really is. He had 652 saves during his 19-year career with the Bronx Bombers.

He was joined by local politicians, community leaders and fans earlier today to publicly unveil the new sign that bears his name.
