A book written about Queen Elizabeth and Princess Diana’s relationship revealed that Prince Charles and Princess Diana saw each other after the finalization of their divorce in 1996. During that moment, Princess Diana asked Prince Charles something that the Prince of Wales couldn’t answer.

Although it has been more than two decades since they divorced, the marriage of Prince Charles and Princess Diana is still one of the most talked-about subjects concerning the royal family. Their royal wedding was the most watched royal wedding in history, with almost two billion viewers all over the world. That’s why when Princess Diana exposed Prince Charles’ affair with Camilla Parker Bowles, the world was shocked.

How the marriage of the Prince and Princess of Wales fell apart drew overwhelming attention at that time, but the details of their marriage and divorce were not brought to light until years later. In her book titled “The Queen And Di: The Untold Story,” royal expert Ingrid Seward revealed what transpired after Prince Charles and Princess Diana met after their divorce.

According to Seward, the Princess of Wales revealed to her just months before her death that she and Prince Charles decided to talk on the very day their divorce became official. “On the day their separation was announced, Charles and Diana met in the first-floor drawing room Diana called the salon of her apartment at Kensington Palace,” she wrote.

“They sat together on the yellow brocade-covered sofa. ‘Why did this have to happen?’’” Princess Diana asked Prince Charles.

Princess Diana told Seward that both of them were silent after that as neither of them could answer the question. It’s no secret that Prince Charles’ affair with Camilla was the root of it all, and their connection started long before she even met and married Princess Diana. Despite that, Charles refused to answer Diana.

After finding herself entangled in a web of lies and public scrutiny, she attempted to clarify her side of the story and spilled the details of her marriage and divorce in a series of audiotapes in 1991. A few months after that emotional conversation, Princess Diana died in a tragic car crash. More than 20 years after her death, her story still resounds worldwide.
