Kensington Palace very rarely releases official statements on issues concerning the members of the royal family. That is why when the Palace defended Kate Middleton from a London-based spa claiming that the Duchess of Cambridge underwent a Botox procedure, many were surprised.

The royal family has had its share of scandals in recent months. From Meghan Markle’s family drama to Prince William’s alleged secret affair with Rose Hanbury, these rumors shook the royal household a few months ago, but the Palace never said a word to defend Meghan or Prince William.

When rumors about Kate having undergone Botox surfaced recently, however, Kensington Palace was quick to release a statement in defense of the Duchess of Cambridge. Because of this, many couldn’t help but question why it was so easy for the Palace to defend Kate from such a trivial issue when it couldn’t even comment on the controversies faced by Meghan because of her problematic family.

Earlier this month, Dr. Munir Somji of a British spa posted two photos of Kate on Instagram and claimed that the Duchess of Cambridge regularly undergoes Botox procedure in his clinic. “Our Kate loves a bit of baby Botox,” the doctor wrote.

“Patients from far and wide see me for this procedure. It is so simple. There is no excuse for doctors to leave patients with browse on the floor. Note the reduction of fine lines on the forehead…” he added.

Shortly after the post went viral, Kensington Palace issued a statement saying that the spa’s post was categorically not true. For such a trivial issue, the Palace’s statement caused some royal followers to believe that the Palace was favoring Kate over Meghan. The Palace could have just shrugged off the issue just as it did when Meghan’s father and siblings openly and aggressively attacked the Duchess of Sussex on national TV, but it did not.

There are speculations that the Palace chose to defend Kate because she’s married to the future King of England. However, some say that it’s not about favoritism but about the Palace choosing its battles.

According to news outlet Archy Newsy, it all boils down to royal politics. “At the end of the day, it’s not about defending Middleton and not Markle — it comes down to royal politics,” the publication noted.
