Meghan Markle has been dubbed as a challenge to the royal family. She may also become a potentially divisive figure to the royal family because of her ambition and outspokenness.

Royal historian Anna Whitelock told Yahoo’s “The Royal Box” that a lot of things about Prince Harry’s wife may either be celebrated or seen as potentially divisive. This includes her being an American outsider, a commoner, a mature woman of status and ambition and someone who is articulate and who has views.

However, royal biographer Andrew Morton dismissed Whitelock’s claims by saying that Meghan Markle has been subjected to the same narrative faced by Princess Diana when she married Prince Charles. Morton pointed out the fact that the “Suits” alum had reached over the British media, and she also enlisted the help of her friends to share positive information about her without interference from Buckingham Palace.

“What I find interesting is she’s been criticized as ‘Duchess Difficult’ and there have been attacks on her because her Scotland Yard bodyguard resigned and various members of staff have resigned,” Morton said. “It was the same narrative as Diana. She started off as the fairytale princess and within 18 months she was being described in the media as a field and a monster because various of her staff had left. It’s a bit of a cliché to use that narrative about her,” he added.

Morton said that Meghan might have decided to seek the help of her friends in clearing her name because no one from Prince Harry’s side has stood up for her. The Duke of Sussex’s pals have been silent because that’s the traditional thing to do.

George Clooney, Serena Williams and Oprah are those who have spoken up in her behalf. Meghan is not also allowed to give personal interviews about her life without the approval of the Palace.

Currently, the Duchess of Sussex is on maternity leave. Meghan gave birth to Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor on May 6 at 5:26 a.m. She and Prince Harry introduced their bundle of joy to the world two days later.
