Why Prince William And Kate Middleton Felt Unhappy On The Duchess’ 25th Birthday

Prince William and Kate Middleton had a memorable 25th birthday celebration for the duchess but for all the wrong reasons. During her special day, both Kate and Prince William felt very unhappy because of an incident that took place.

In 2007, rumors were ripe that Prince William was already planning on proposing to Kate. The paparazzi and the members of the press assumed that the couple’s engagement would take place on the Duchess of Cambridge’s 25th birthday.

As such, they hounded her outside her home and stalked her for hours until she stepped out of the property. A spokesperson for Prince William said that the future king was very unhappy with the paparazzi harassment that his then girlfriend experienced.

In the YouTube documentary “Prince William At 30,” royal experts also discussed how the paparazzi’s harassment caused a furious reaction from the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. The second in line to the throne even went as far as taking legal action.

“On Kate’s 25th birthday she had to run the gauntlet of cameras packed onto the street outside her flat,” the narrator said. Royal correspondent Roya Nikkah also said that the hundreds of press photographers and paparazzi waiting outside Kate’s flat in Chelsea made it impossible for other people to make their way around the area.

“It was almost as if whatever she did — whether she went to work or didn’t want to go to work — she would be scrutinized and almost hounded,” Nikkah said. “William did not take very kindly to this and that was when we started to see the Royal Family — driven by Prince William on this — starting to take action against the press and against pursuit and harassment by photographers of Catherine,” she added.

Kate’s family hired leading legal firm Harbottle and Lewis to urge the media to use restraint. But despite the legal action that both parties undertook, the media’s scrutiny and attention caused tension in Prince William and Kate’s relationship.

To everyone’s shock, in 2007, Prince William and Kate called it quits. But after just a couple of months, the future king realized that he really wanted to be with Kate and got back together with her.
