Married couples often keep secrets from each other for various reasons. Even Princess Diana once tried to keep a secret from Prince Charles for fear of disappointing him, and it involves Prince Harry.

Most royal family fans know that there's just a two-year age difference between Prince William and Prince Harry. Diana’s older son was born on June 21, 1982, while the younger prince was born on Sept. 15, 1984.

That means that Princess Diana was already pregnant with Prince Harry a year after giving birth to Prince William. However, the Princess of Wales dreaded to tell Prince Charles a very important detail about her pregnancy.

In Andrew Morton’s book “Diana: Her True Story,” the princess did not tell Prince Charles that their second child is going to be a boy. The reason for her reluctance to share the news to her husband is that she was afraid that the child’s gender will “disappoint” him.

Apparently, Prince Charles wanted a girl for their second child so badly that Princess Diana hesitated to tell him Prince Harry’s gender. Thus, she did not tell her husband that she’s going to give birth to a boy despite already knowing about it through ultrasound.

“I knew Harry was going to be a boy because I saw on the scan,” Diana explained. “Charles always wanted a girl. He wanted two children, and he wanted a girl. I knew Harry was a boy, and I didn’t tell him.”

Princess Diana recalled how Prince Charles reacted when he found out the gender during Prince Harry’s birth. According to Diana, her husband barely attempted to conceal his disappointment based on his comments.

“First comment was: ‘Oh God, it's a boy,’” Diana recalled. “Second comment: ‘And he's even got red hair.’”

During Prince Harry’s christening weeks later, Prince Charles expressed his disappointment once more about Princess Diana giving birth to a son instead of a daughter. “We were so disappointed — we thought it would be a girl,” Charles reportedly told Diana’s mom, Frances Kydd.

Apparently, Kydd was not very pleased with Prince Charles’ comment about the young Prince Harry. “Mummy snapped his head off, saying: ‘You should realize how lucky you are to have a child that’s normal,’” shared Diana.
