The failure of Prince Charles and Princess Diana’s marriage is proof that even royal fairytale weddings are not guaranteed to end up happily ever after. Naturally, there are speculations on whether or not their son Prince Harry’s marriage to Meghan Markle will fare better and stand the test of time.

But royal family fans are so advanced thinking that some are already speculating what might happen to Meghan should she divorce Harry for whatever reason. For instance, the query “What happens if Meghan and Harry divorce? Will she still remain the duchess of Sussex?” was posted on Quora, which generated a number of responses from the site’s users.

One possibility is that she’ll likely lose the HRH title. “She will no longer be HRH The Duchess of Sussex, instead, she will be Meghan, Duchess of Sussex. Should Harry remarry, his new wife will become HRH THE Duchess of Sussex,” Sallie Smythe wrote on the forum.

Smythe explained that this was what happened to Princess Diana when she divorced Prince Charles and to Sarah Ferguson when she divorced Prince Andrew. However, she also noted that Meghan and Harry divorcing seem unlikely at this point.

Meanwhile, another Quora user pointed out that there’s one possibility where Meghan might totally lose her titles. “Only if she remarries. In effect, her title of Duchess of Sussex really means ‘Mrs. Duke of Sussex,’” Mickie Southam explained.

However, one Quora member pointed out that it’s actually uncertain what might happen to Meghan’s titles if she were to divorce Harry. “In order to divorce the Royals typically sign a divorce agreement where they agree on not only the ownership of the properties and financial matters but also the titles,” Tamer Aydogdu wrote, noting that nothing is set in stone when it comes to divorces.

In fact, there’s always the possibility that the duchess might lose all her titles or retain all of it. “If Meghan and Harry were to get divorced one day it is a possibility that they agree that Meghan keeps both HRH and Sussex,” Aydogdu added. “However it is also a possibility she loses one or more titles. It all depends on the reason of divorce.”

While there are no indications that Harry and Meghan are on the road to divorce, the media has been churning out various stories on the topic. For instance, a report from New Idea on January claimed that the Palace does not want surprises and is also making preparations should the unthinkable happen.

Even Diana’s former psychic was reported by Daily Star for her prediction on the longevity of Harry and Meghan’s marriage. “I give their marriage two-and-a-half to three years,” Simone Simmons was quoted by the publication.
