Looks like Windows 10 is not yet done with its long list of faulty updates that have no plans of ceasing any time in the future or stopping its adverse impact on users. Its latest update, named Windows 10 KB4532693, is reportedly deleting files on people’s PCs after they are installing the update.

This is not the first time Windows 10 KB4532693 is causing problems

KB4532693, supposed to be an important security update, has already caused serious issues for Windows 10 users. Users have complained that after they installed Windows 10 KB4532693, Windows 10 reverted the system back to the default Start menu and desktop before booting up, thus deleting any shortcuts or customization they’ve applied. In many serious cases, the update was also reverting some PCs from booting correctly.

It was found that the error was happening as Windows 10 was booting with a temporary user profile. This, in turn, was deleting shortcuts and icons from the desktop and the Start menu. The only solution to rectify this error is to uninstall the update.

But now, it appears that the issue is far more serious than it was perceived to be

Adding to the list of all that is wrong with this latest Windows 10 update, another, much serious, issue has cropped up- this update is not only reverting the system to its default software but also deleting any files saved on the desktop.

While in some cases, users have been able to restore their files as the update was only renaming and moving their user profile, in the majority of cases people have found the possibility of restoring the files that were deleted is not possible. This poses a rather serious problem anyone downloading the update as they would risk losing out on their important documents and work, with no possibility of recovery.

As of now, it hasn’t been possible to gauge how widespread this issue is and what percentage of the population has been affected as Microsoft itself is yet to come out with an explanation for another shortcoming of theirs in a long list of faulty Windows 10 updates.
