A woman reportedly died after a stalker pushed her in front of a moving train in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India on Thursday, Oct. 13.

The girl, identified as 20-year-old M Sathya, of Alandur, was waiting at St. Thomas Mount Railway Station with her friend to board the Chennai Beach-bound train to her college at T Nagar. However, while she was waiting for the train, the 23-year-old accused Sathish, who had come to the station following her, pushed her in front of the train by allegedly tripping her leg. The girl fell over into the railway track, got run over by the train, and died on the spot, the New Indian Express reported.

The accused, Sathish, had been following the victim for several days. On the day of the tragic incident, while Sathya and her friend were waiting for the train on platform number 1 at the railway station, Sathish, who had followed her all the way to the station, approached her. When Sathya refused his advances, he started an argument with Sathya.

Seeing a train enter the station, Sathya got up from the bench and walked toward the end of the platform. However, Sathish followed her. As the train approached them, Sathish allegedly deliberately tripped Sathya's leg and pushed her in front of the Chennai Beach-bound train. Sathya fell on the railway tracks and the train ran over her, killing her, India Today reported.

Meanwhile, Manickam, the victim's father, suffered chest pain after he heard the news about his daughter's death and was hospitalized. He later died of a heart attack in the hospital.

According to officers, Sathya’s parents had already filed a police complaint against Sathish at the Mambalam police station a few weeks ago.

Following the incident, the accused Sathish was arrested near Thoraipakkam on Thursday, Oct. 13 night by the Mambalam RPF and a special team from the St Thomas Mount police. Sathish's father Dayalan is a retired Sub-inspector of the police.

The victim also comes from a family of police personnel. Her mother M Rajalakshmi, serves as a head constable at the Adambakkam police station. Meanwhile, Sathya’s mother’s sister, her maternal uncle, and her aunt are all in various departments of the city police.
