A Missouri woman who claimed that the devil was "coming to get her" allegedly decapitated both her 6-year-old son and her family dog in her house in Kansas on Tuesday, Feb. 15.

The accused, Tasha Haefs, 35, was taken into custody on Wednesday, Feb. 16, and charged with first-degree murder and armed criminal action after she allegedly ruthlessly beheaded both her 6-year-old son and her family dog at her residence in Kansas on Tuesday, Feb. 15, Law & Crime reported.

On Tuesday, at around 11:45 p.m., officers responded to a call about a disturbance at a home located in the 7300 block of Indiana Avenue in Jackson County. The caller said that someone was “trying to harm her” and that “the devil was trying to attack her” before she abruptly hung up the phone. The distraught caller was later identified as Haefs.

After law enforcement arrived at the scene to perform a welfare check, first responders observed bloodstains on the front steps of the home. They also found what appeared to be blood and hair on the front door. Police officers subsequently determined that an adult female was still inside the home. The police stated that they heard a woman singing inside the house and when they knocked, “the woman sang even louder.”

Officers learned that multiple children lived in the home and that they had not been seen in several days. When the authorities looked through the windows, they saw the severed head of a young child near the threshold of the front door. Officers then forced their way into the house through the back door fearing the safety of her children who may still be alive inside, the Daily Mail reported.

After they entered the home, the officers located “the decapitated body of a young child near the front door of the residence.”

The officers then discovered Haefs covered in blood and immediately arrested her. Investigators later recovered a knife, a knife handle, and a screwdriver that were covered in “blood and tissue” from inside the dining room. They also found another bloody knife from the basement, where they also discovered the body of a decapitated dog,

Meanwhile, Haefs reportedly waived her Miranda rights and provided a detailed statement in which she confessed to the police that the beheaded child was her biological son. She also “admitted to killing the victim in the bathtub and decapitating the victim.”

Haefs reportedly denied having any kind of mental illness. She was charged with the first-degree murder of her son and armed criminal action on Wednesday, Feb. 16, and is currently being held at the Jackson County Detention Center.
