A group of bandits looted a New York City home in the Bronx and assaulted the sleeping residents with baseball bats, said police on Wednesday. Joshua Farjardo, 29, and two other thieves reportedly entered an unlocked home near Selwyn Ave. and Mount Eden Ave. in Clairmont around 10 a.m. on Aug. 31 and attacked the residents who were fast asleep.

The robbers breached through a locked door where two male residents were peacefully sleeping. The thieves pounced on the helpless 21-year-old and 27-year-old residents who were severely beaten with baseball bats and a broom by Farjardo and his accomplices. The attack resulted in severe injuries to the youngest of the two men who is said to be in critical but stable condition. After their unprovoked attack, the suspects swiped three cell phones, an Ipad, and about $500 in cash, before fleeing the home, New York Daily News reported.

The two injured men rushed themselves to the nearby BronxCare Health System, where the youngest received treatment for his injuries at the back of his head. The oldest of the two was treated at the same hospital for injuries to his head and left knee and was later released.

Police were able to locate Farjardo on Sept.13 and arrest him. The suspect was hit with numerous charges, including burglary, robbery, and assault. Farjardo is currently out on $7,500 bail awaiting his next court appearance while police are still on the hunt for the other two accomplices. Photos of the other two suspects were released, as the suspects reportedly involve one man and a woman. Authorities have urged the public to give any information that will help in finding the two.

A similar incident occurred in New Zealand on Thursday. New Zealand police released a description of the crime on their official website. It said around 10:45 p.m. and 11:00 p.m., a man was disturbed by an intruder on his property on West Street. The victim was a 73-year-old man, who was brutally beaten by the suspect. Detectives added that the intruder fled the scene on foot and the elderly man was given hospital treatment.

The detectives described the suspect to be a man, about 6ft in height, medium build, wearing a white or light-colored hoodie, with the hood obscuring his face. They added that the suspect may have been captured on a vehicle’s dashcam around the area of the crime.
