DeltaWing Nissan [New Tech]
Of Nissans' 13 LMP2 entries, engineers are especially keen to study the performance of the radical Nissan DeltaWing. Thanks to its efficient packaging, the DeltaWing is only half as heavy, and possesses only half the aerodynamic drag of a conventional racing car.The experimental #0 will be driven by Marino Franchitti, Michael Krumm, and Satoshi Motoyama. Qualifying 26 overall, the Highcroft Racing DeltaWing Nissan posted the fastest time of 3:42.612. Nissan

Satoshi Motoyama's radical #0 DeltaWing retires from the 24 Hours of Le Mans after getting knocked off the track and into a concrete barrier by Kazuki Nakajima's #7 Toyota TS030 in the seventh hour of the race.

Affirming itself as a legitimate racing machine and not just a strange looking gimmick, Motoyama struggled to cope with the car, nursing it back to the pits for repairs. Unfortunately the suspension damage proved terminal.

According to Autosport, Marin Franchitti shared his view: "Nakajima misjudged his timing. One hit we could have probably coped with, but the fact that it then hit the wall was probably too much.

"It's a shame because we had been running well, setting respectable times and things were going well. Having spent so much time developing it, I'm gutted I haven't been able to race it - that hurts."
