Race track editions are pretty damn awesome. Off the top of my head, there has been the Porsche 911 GT3 RS, Ferrari 430 Scuderia, Nissan Skyline R34 GT-R V-spec II Nür (Nüburgring), and the Ford Mustang Boss 302 Laguna Seca. All these cars symbolize the most hardcore, most track-focused variant of its model range.
Now, BMW will be introducing a track-inspired car of their own, a harder edged M3 coupe. Nurburgring edition? Hockenheim edition? Silverstone? SPA Francochamps? Monaco? Indianapolis? No, no, no, no, no, and no. Lime Rock Park Edition.
One of the venues of the American Le Mans Series (ALMS) calendar, Lime Rock Park is a racing circuit located in the scenic northwestern region of Connecticut. According to BMW, a total of 200 units of the United States-only exclusive BMW will be made.
Modifications in this special edition model are actually quite modest. Through developmental input from Skip Barber, owner of Lime Rock, a series of enhanced components have been selected for the M3 -- a lightweight inconel-titanium exhaust muffler, carbon fiber front and rear aero spoilers, and an Anthracite Alcantara-covered, flat-bottom steering wheel. The Lime Rock Park Special Edition M3 also comes with a numbered plaque on the center console to identify its exclusivity. Paint wise, the special M3 comes in any color as long as it's fire orange.
The 2013 BMW M3 Lime Rock Park Edition starts at $70,995 including destination. With production limited to just 200 copies, reserve your own soon as deliveries begin in September.
