A Carlisle man who won a US$2.7 million (£2 million) lottery scratch-off jackpot reportedly quit his job just 10 minutes after confirming the prize win on Jan. 13.

Ian Black, 61, who worked at the Pirelli factory in Carlisle, reportedly bought the lucky scratchcard from an Esso Garage store on Wigton Road in Carlisle while he was driving back home after finishing his night shift on Jan. 13.

After buying the National Lottery’s Monopoly Deluxe stub, he scratched the card in the forecourt of the garage and realized that he had won the top prize of US$2.7 million (£2 million), Cumbria Crack reported.

“Ten minutes after I got the confirmation, I quit,” said Black.

He called his boss and told him that he “won’t be in tonight.” He then corrected himself and told him that he “won’t be in the rest of the week.”

“He asked me what was going on. I said, ‘In fact, I’m not coming back. I just won £2 million ($2.7 million) on a scratchcard this morning,’" Black related.

“‘Oh my god, oh my god, I’m so jealous, but I’m so chuffed," the boss reportedly told Black.

Meanwhile, Black added that he didn’t sleep for two and half days after learning about his lottery win.

In a similar but unrelated incident, a Watauga resident reportedly bagged a top prize-winning lottery ticket worth $1,000 a week for the next 20 years, Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported.

The winner reportedly purchased the winning Texas Lottery Weekly Grand scratch ticket at Big Z at 6701 Rufe Snow Drive in Watauga. Instead of choosing to receive a lump sum, the winner chose the weekly payment option and chose to receive $1,000 a week for the next 20 years. Weekly Grand game offers more than $34.6 million in total prizes.

In another incident, a group of friends reportedly won over $1 million in the Jan. 20 drawing of Virginia Lottery’s Cash 5 game, 13News Now reported.

The seven friends from Virginia Beach called the "Magnificent Seven," bought the winning Cash 5 tickets at the Food Lion on North Great Neck Road and won over $1 million for the Jan. 20 drawing.

The seven winners were identified as Ryan Nguyen, Duc Nguyen, Doan Tran, Tien Ho, Trinh Tran, Hong Ho, and Thi Nguyen.

When split evenly, each winner in the group will take home over $144,000 in winnings.
