A 48-year-old man has been arrested after reportedly leaving the body of his mistress by the roadside in the Aro area of Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital at around 3:00 a.m.
The suspect was identified as Segun Taiwo who was arrested on Nov. 9. According to reports, the 48-year-old had sex with the deceased, identified as 50-year-old Abima Olusola on Oct. 31 in Nigeria. However, Olusola died at around 3:00 a.m. after that with the cause of death yet to be known.
According to police reports, Taiwo admitted to dumping the body of Olusola after her death after both had intercourse.
“In his confession, he told the investigators that he has been dating the deceased since last year and that he invited her to his house on Sunday, October 31 to pass the night with him since his wife is not at home,” police public relations officer DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi stated.
Oyeyemi was asked by authorities why he decided to dump the corpse of Olusola at the time. He claims that he did it out of fear. The case has been passed on to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department as ordered by Commissioner of Police Lanre Bankole.
Based on his statements, it appears Taiwo initially denied knowing the deceased. It was only when evidence was collected pointing to him that he confessed the truth.
“On interrogation, the suspect first denied knowing the deceased, but when evidence linking him with the deceased was tabled before him, he was left with no other alternative than to confess,” Bankole stated.
Further, the 48-year-old admitted that both had known each other and had been dating since last year.
“In his confession, he told the investigators that he had been dating the deceased since last year, and that he invited her to his house on Sunday, Oct. 31, to pass the night with him, since his wife was not at home,” the police commissioner added.
