A 65-year-old woman was reportedly gang-raped while attending to her sick granddaughter at a state-run hospital in the Dhenkanal district.

The heinous incident was brought to light following the survivor's treatment at the hospital.

Reports claim that the elderly woman's granddaughter of Anthukudakateni village under Gandia police limits was being treated for fever at the District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) in Dhenkanal. The woman had been attending to her at the hospital in the previous ten days.

Two criminals reportedly took the elderly woman outside the hospital after finishing her errands. The suspects forcibly took her to a secluded place near a pond and forced themselves upon her.

They also threatened her with dire consequences if she would report to the authorities after committing the crime. They left her there, believing she was dead.

After regaining consciousness the following day, April 28, the gang rape survivor walked to the hospital and was treated.

The survivor then notified the DHH authorities about her case. The hospital officials them filed a report to the town police. Cops obtained the victim's medical records. The victim also pointed out the crime scene to the police.

Dhenkanal Town Police filed a Suo Moto case and began an investigation after the incident. In connection with the incident, the police arrested two suspects.

Meanwhile, locals and hospital attendants claimed that the hospital needed "improvement."
