Al Pacino has been replaced by Benjamin Bratt. Bratt will now play the role of the villain Eduardo in the upcoming animated film, "Despicable Me 2." Bratt, best known for his role in "Catwoman," will replace Pacino after the actor dropped out of the film half way through production.

"Despicable Me 2" stars Steve Carrell, who will reprise his role as the evil but loving genius, Gru. The sequel is set to be released July 3, 2013.

Al Pacino reportedly left the cast of "Despicable Me 2" following "creative difference" with Universal Studios and production company, Illumination Studios.

Universal Studios issued a statement regarding the split, "Over the production of Despicable Me 2, there were creative differences between us and Al Pacino, who had been cast as the voice of Eduardo in the film. We have mutually decided with Al to replace the voice of Eduardo with a new actor. Universal and Illumination thank Al for his many contributions to the process and look forward to a new actor bringing this memorable character to the screen upon its release this summer."

Pacino has yet to release a statement. The film is still slated for a summer release, which prompted the quick casting of Benjamin Bratt. "Despicable Me 2" also stars Steve Carrell, Kristen Wiig, Ken Jeong, Miranda Cosgrove, Russell Brand, and Steve Coogan.
