Mexican soccer player Alan Pulido was kidnapped in Tamaulipas, Mexico, after attending a party with his girlfriend in Ciudad Victoria on Saturday night, sources revealed Sunday morning.

Pulido’s release was confirmed on the same day, when the 25-year-old athlete joined Tamaulipas Governor Egidio Torre Cantú during a press conference, in which the happenings were explained but specific details about the rescue operation were not provided.

“The most important thing is that he is here. He is with us,” Cantú said.

During the past few days, different versions of the story have been told and rumors have been spread, but one has managed to stand out from the rest. On May 30, Anonymous México released a video claiming that Pulido’s abduction was staged.

“We won’t allow politicians and pseudo-athletes to fool the Mexican society,” says the masked activist. “Mexican soccer player Alan Pulido was never kidnapped, and was certainly not rescued by the Mexican authorities.”

He continued, “These breaking news are completely false. This is simply a montage to deceive the thousands of naïve Mexicans, who believe that Mexican authorities have the capability to execute these kinds of operations.”

Journalist Ciro Gómez Leyva, guided by Humberto Padgett’s words in the book “Tamaulipas, la casta de los narcogobernadores,” exposed the absurdity behind the case in an article published on El Universal earlier this week.

“The fact that he [Pulido] was able to give details about the location, makes us think that he wasn’t blindfolded, which is a kidnapper’s basic action, even if they are not professional,” he wrote.

He added, “Police offers rescued Alan, according to commissioner Galindo, without the kidnapper’s opposition. Either they had time to run away, or there was only one person at the place, another unlikely situation that would raise enormous interest in our society.”

However, recent reports suggested that the Olympiacos striker fought his way out, which means he was never rescued.

“I was downstairs and ‘El Gordo’ was with him [Pulido] on the second floor,” said one of the kidnappers, Daniel Morales, who was arrested on Thursday. “I heard someone was fighting and as I was going up the stairs, the kidnapped shot me with the gun. Then I saw my partner running away through the back door. I didn’t know where I was and I didn’t know how to escape. He [Pulido] told me to put my hands up or he would kill me. I did what he told me and he started to hit me, then he grabbed my phone and made the call.”

On Friday, Alan was supposed to sit down with renowned journalist Adela Micha to explain what really happened, but he backed down at the very last minute. The moment was caught on camera.
