Tonight on “American Idol” the finale match up was announced. It has been months of anticipation and nerve racking days and nights and stressful eliminations which these three –Jena Irene, Caleb Johnson and Alex Preston – have survived. Also tonight, they showed the footage of the contestants’ hometown visits. Caleb Johnson is from Asheville, North Carolina, Jena Irene from Farmington Hills, Michigan and Alex Preston from Mount Vernon, New Hampshire.
Ryan called the top 3 finalists to center stage and said “dim the lights” for one last time before the finale and announced Jena Irene would be competing in the finale. Caleb and Alex stood center stage with Ryan. One would go home and one would battle Jena next week with the possibility of becoming the next American Idol. Caleb Johnson was the next finalist announced. Alex Preston was sent home.
