After cancelling her religious wedding back in November, only a few days before the ceremony was to take place, Mexican actress Ana Brenda Contreras has opened up about what drove her to do it. She sat down with Lourdes Stephen from “Sal y Pimienta” and addressed the infidelity rumors that surrounded her and Alejandro Amaya once the plans to marry in the church fell through.

Ana Brenda and Alejandro got married in a civil ceremony in Las Vegas back in March 2013. They had set up Nov. 23, 2013 as their religious wedding date, in front of family and loved ones. However, on Nov. 19, the couple released a statement. "By way of this press release we inform you that the actress Ana Brenda Contreras and the bullfighter Alejandro Hank Amaya have postponed their religious celebration of their matrimony, which was to take place Saturday, November 23."

No cause was given on why the couple was not going forward with the wedding. "So we won't create speculation we inform you that they remain together and their reasons are personal," the statement concludes. “It was one of the most difficult days of my life,” Ana Brenda confessed to Lourdes Stephen. “We said we didn’t need to be together, and each one had to go their way because that day we would have an awful time.” Contreras continued to explain what happened after.

“We were far, but we still loved each other. We talked on the phone and it was ‘How are you, how are you feeling?’ ‘Well, I feel awful’ ‘I feel awful too,’” the actress said. “It got out of our hands. We were foolish. I had to talk to my parents. I had to sit down and say ‘Mom and dad, there won’t be a wedding for the moment, we can’t celebrate right now.’”

She added that the fact that she and Amaya were already distanced and hadn’t gotten to agree in many things, was what made her take the drastic decision of postponing the wedding. “It was something that we had been dragging for a while. I’m talking about weeks and weeks of trying to see eye to eye. Yes and no, I don’t agree. Yes, I’m with you, no I’m not with you anymore,” she said. “We never talked and set the record straight.”

Contreras admitted that she and Amaya had moments of crisis but they never doubted that they wanted to be together. She continued to say that they both love each other and that there was no infidelity like people speculated, and nothing that was said after postponing the wedding was true. In fact, everything that came after taking the decision to put the wedding on hold has actually made the couple stronger.

“Ever since all of this happened, we’ve gotten even closer. Today we have an amazing connection. We hope one day to celebrate this wedding, but right now we’re not ready for it. Honestly, it became bigger than us.”
