A woman in Kenya allegedly beheaded her 99-year-old husband with a machete after she sees her daughter-in-law serving him breakfast.

The accused wife, 65-year-old Margaret Wanjiru, is accused of killing her nonagenarian husband, Ndung'u Mugachia on Sunday, Sept. 5, in the Kagumoini village of southern Kenya.

According to police, Wanjiru got into a heated argument with her daughter-in-law for serving breakfast to Mr.Mugachia.

Catherine Ringera, a police official in the nearby town of Kandara, said: "The husband came out to defend the daughter-in-law and that is when hell break loose."

Wanjiru rushed for a machete and slashed her husband, cutting off his right ear before slitting his throat, Kenyan newspaper the Daily Nation reported.

"She woke up and started insulting the husband and included me because I was the one serving him breakfast," her daughter-in-law, Betty Mumbi said.

"The husband tried to calm her down, but it was in vain, as she dashed for the panga and slit his throat."

"I tried saving him, but she also started attacking me."

She added: "He was lying outside the house as he tried to escape, but she overpowered him and cut off his head," she added.

Mr. Mugachia was already dead by the time police officers responded to the scene.

The couple had been married for 52 years and have six children.

According to reports, Wanjiru allegedly did not want her husband to be given food or money. They would often engage in altercations over land and allegations of infidelity.

Wanjiru is being held at Kabati Police Station and is due to appear in court, Mwakilishi.com reports.

The victim’s body is being kept at Gaichanjiru Catholic mission hospital mortuary, with an autopsy due to be carried out.

In a similar incident, a 76-year-old woman was stabbed to death by her 79-year-old roommate during a heated argument in Orange County, Florida on Sept. 4.

Suzanne Dickens was stabbed multiple times by her roommate, Thelma Atterbury during an argument that some neighbors suggested may have stemmed from something silly.

Atterbury is under the custody of the Orange County Jail and is facing one count of first-degree murder with a weapon.
