Today Apple will introduce an Apple Music student plan that will discount the music streaming service by 50 percent for those who are enrolled in an eligible college or university, reports TechCrunch. This new plan means any academic student in the U.S. can now pick up an individual Apple Music subscription for $4.99 a month, as opposed to the regular price of $9.99.

The plan will also benefit students in the U.K., Germany, Denmark, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand. However, the cost is expected to vary from country to country, but all markets will see a 50 percent discount on the subscription, reports MacRumors.

The student membership is offered for up to four continuous or non-continuous years after signing up. This means students are able to take a gap year or break between semesters and still sign up again when they return to their college or university. Additionally, this plan is open to all students of all ages.

The discounted subscription will be available starting today for both new and existing members. Students can sign up or change their membership online or through the Apple Music app.

Meanwhile, recent rumors suggest Apple Music's interface will see an overhaul in the company's next iOS update. 9to5Mac reports that one of the streaming services least used features -- Connect -- will be removed from the app's tab bar.

Some users have already gone through the process of removing the Connect tab already, allowing them to add a Playlist tab in its place. iOS 10 will see Apple removing Connect permanently from the bottom tab and into an integrated section of the "For You" page. Because of this Apple's Connect feature will likely not see any updates on features this year.

The removal the Connect tab will likely be revealed at WWDC 2016 where the company will announce iOS 10.
