Ariana Grande made headlines last week after posting a photo of herself with her hair down. Now reports claim that the “Thank U, Next” singer is officially splitting from her iconic ponytail to have her long hair down for good.

“Everyone go watch Miley’s Black Mirror episode immediately she is brilliant and I love her,” she wrote in the caption of her controversial selfie. “Also my hair is down again!”

For five years, Grande has worn her hair in her signature high ponytail. Since releasing her second studio album, “My Everything,” in 2014, she has never made any public appearance with her hair down. That’s why when she posted a photo of herself without her ponytail last week, it instantly became the talk of the town.

While the high ponytail look has been Grande’s signature look for many years, speculations are now rife that the singer is finally ditching it. The speculations grew even wilder when she changed her Twitter avatar into a photo of her with her hair down. She also performed in Atlanta on June 8 with her brunette strands hanging down her waist — something she hasn’t done for years.

When Grande started wearing her long hair up in a high ponytail five years ago, she said it was so because it was the only style that worked with her damaged hair. Eventually, she said she couldn’t help repeating the same look over and over again, saying she loved it and did not feel the need to change.

Since fans rarely see Grande without her signature high ponytail trailing down her back, it is such a big deal for them to think that Grande is finally letting it go. She has stuck with it for years that many already find her unrecognizable without her ponytail. Her hairstyle has become so iconic that even Grande herself cannot believe it’s going to be a thing.

In a previous interview, Grande said tying her hair up felt like true love. “I had no idea that it was going to become, like, a thing,” she said. “Every time I put my hair up, it’s like a surprise. Like, I forget how much I love it, and then I tie it back and I’m like, ‘I love this look! Ooh, girl!’ Every time I tie it up is like the first time. It’s like true love,” she added.

Fans will see in Grande’s future public appearances if she’s wearing her iconic ponytail again. If she does, then fans can finally sleep soundly at night thinking her cute ponytail is here to stay. But if she puts her hair down yet another time, then it could be a hint that she’s permanently breaking from her signature hairstyle.
