Arsene Wenger and his Gunners team continue to push for a big acquisition in the current transfer window. With the signing period officially closing on September 2, the Arsenal manager has his sights set on another premier player since previous bids to acquire Liverpool's Luis Suarez failed to develop. Suarez was a major target at the Emirates because Arsene Wegner covets a prolific scorer capable of improving the club's fourth place Premier League finish from a year ago but after 2 bids did not satisfy Liverpool, the Gunners are forced to look elsewhere.

According to ESPN FC, the Gunners will now look to Real Madrid's Karim Benzema. A premier striker truly capable of bolstering Wenger's front line, Arsenal hopes the potential signing of the Madrid scorer will help the club forget its failed pursuit of Luis Suarez. The 25-year-old comes with a price £40 million but with a substantial amount of spending money for player expenditures, this could be the major move Arsenal makes since Wenger has already said the club will no longer go after Suarez.

"Absolutely no chance of that," Wenger said when asked if a third bid would be tabled for the Liverpool star. "It is true that one bid for a striker did not work. That took a long time. We have to wake up from that now. I'm confident. The transfer market starts for me now and a lot of activity will happen between now and September 2. It is like a poker game. People hold their cards as long as possible. In the end, they go for decisions."

In addition to the possible signing of Benzema, Bleacher Report notes that another high-profile player from the Bernabeu is an Emirates target as well.

Arsenal are working on deals to sign Real Madrid pair Karim Benzema and Angel Di Maria. The Gunners are prepared to pay £40m for 25-year-old France striker Benzema after missing out on Gonzalo Higuain and Liverpool's Luis Suarez.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is keen to further boost his attacking options with Argentina international Di Maria, 25, who plays on the left wing.

Benzema is a player fully capable of anchoring a front line. Since joining Real Madrid in 2009 after spending 5 seasons with Lyon, the French native has recorded 56 goals in 125 appearances for Los Blancos while guiding the team to the 2011 Copa del Rey trophy, 2012 La Liga title and the 2012 Supercopa championship.

25-year-old Angel Di Maria is a winger capable of scoring when needed as well. In 90 matches with Madrid since 2010, the Rosario, Argentina native has recorded 18 goals and if Arsenal is able to snag him along with Benzema, the Gunners will surely find themselves in better position this season in the EPL.
