Heading into their crucial weekend showdown against Liverpool, the Arsenal Gunners own a two-point lead in the tight Barclays Premier League standings. With 55 points through 24 matches, Arsene Wenger's club find themselves ahead of Manchester City and Chelsea, who each have 53 points, but Liverpool is still in the hunt with 47. Making their final preparations before a trip to face Luis Suarez and a talented Liverpool bunch, Wenger hopes the clubs recent good fortune remains intact as they look to remain BPL leaders moving further into February. The 2-0 victory Arsenal earned at Anfield last season was the club's fourth-consecutive win on their league rivals' pitch and the Gunners boss hopes to keep that trend alive.

“We had some good wins at Anfield,” Wenger said. “I have a lot of respect for the fans there, they know their football. I think Liverpool are strong offensively with Sturridge, Suarez, Coutinho, Sterling and Steven Gerrard. Liverpool are in a better position than to when we last played them. They have momentum with them.” Arsenal upended Liverpool 2-0 at Emirates Stadium on Nov. 2 thanks to tallies from Santi Cazorla and Aaron Ramsey and the Gunners have been able to continue their strong play since. Despite saying he feels comfortable with his current roster for the final stretch of the season it was Wenger who made previous attempts to acquire Luis Suarez during the summer transfer window.

Letting the roster be during the recent winter period as well, Wenger stated this week that he has no plans to go after the Liverpool scorer once again while also noting that his clubs physical and mental preparedness is in top form. In 19 BPL matches for Liverpool this season Luis Suarez has been on a tear. Registering 23 goals on 103 shot attempts to go along with 7 assists, the Uruguayan National star has certainly solidified his status as one of the premier goal scorers in professional soccer.

“You sometimes have regrets when players who played for you score goals or do well somewhere else,” Wenger said recently. “But he was never our player, it is a situation that didn't come off and that is it. We have no plans to revisit the deal at the moment. In the Premiership now, every point is vital. But we enjoy that and we have fought very hard until now to be in that position. I am convinced that, especially mentally, we are prepared and physically we are prepared but it depends how many injuries you have as you need to rotate.”
