“Attack On Titan” Season 3 will soon be ending with episode 22 scheduled for release on July 1. However, a recent announcement made by Crunchyroll had fans of both the anime and manga series a bit panicky.

The good news is that AoT Season 4 has been confirmed by Crunchyroll. According to the site, the fourth installment will be released by fall of 2020.

However, all stories, even the great ones, must have an ending. And sadly for the hit anime series, the highly anticipated fourth season will also be its last.

The site noted that the third season of “Attack On Titan” was split into two parts. The first part was released in the fall of 2018, while the second part started airing by April 2019.

Crunchyroll did not specifically state that the fourth and final season will likewise be divided into two parts. But by mentioning the third season’s precedence, it’s also likely that Season 4 of AoT will be released in the same manner, which means that its second part will be out by 2021.

The announcement might not come as a surprise to fans who have been following all updates on both the manga and anime series. In an interview with Yomiuri Shimbun, “Attack On Titan” creator Hajime Isayama hinted that the manga might “end in one or two years,” as reported by ComicBook on April 2019.

The manga is now in its final arch, and new chapters are released once a month. The assumption back then is that if fans are lucky and the manga series goes on for another two years, there will still be another 24 chapters to look forward to.

However, Crunchyroll’s latest announcement that the anime’s fourth season will be out by 2020 might mean that the manga won’t likely last for another two years. Since it will take some time for the manga’s material to be converted to anime, Isayama has to stop coming up with new manga chapters a few months before the anime’s fourth season is released.

Understandably, anime fans are saddened at the announcement. But since nothing can be done about it at this point, fans expressed their wish to see their favorite anime to get a proper ending, which it deserves.

“Let's hope it ends strong,” Karl Keogh wrote on Twitter. “Season 1 was awesome. Season 2 was really great. The third season has solidified for me the fact that #AttackOnTitan is one of the best #anime series ever made! Based on the quality of the previous seasons, the final season should be brilliant.”
