David Oscar Markus, attorney of Jeffrey Epstein associate Ghislaine Maxwell, said her client will "always testify truthfully" as the Department of Justice (DOJ) announced on Tuesday it will seek to speak with her.
In a social media publication, CNN reporter Kaitlan Collins quoted the attorney confirming that they "are in discussions with the government" for this purpose. "We are grateful to President Trump for his commitment to uncovering the truth in this case," Markus added.

Earlier on Tuesday, Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche, who has taken intense heat from the MAGA base over the administration's approach to the case, said the DOJ and the FBI will "hear" what Maxwell "has to say" about the case if she "has information about anyone who has committed crimes against victims."
"Therefore, at the direction of Attorney General Bondi, I have communicated with counsel for Ms. Maxwell to determine whether she would be willing to speak with prosecutors from the Department. I anticipate meeting with Ms. Maxwell in the coming days. Until now, no administration on behalf of the Department had inquired about her willingness to meet with the government. That changes now," Blanche added.

This Department of Justice does not shy away from uncomfortable truths, nor from the responsibility to pursue justice wherever the facts may lead. The joint statement by the DOJ and FBI of July 6 remains as accurate today as it was when it was…
In this context, Epstein's former lawyer Alan Dershowitz said Maxwell should be granted immunity in exchange for revealing what she knows. "(Maxwell) knows everything," he added. She is currently serving a 20-year sentence for sex trafficking and other crimes in connection with Epstein.
"I'm told that she actually would be willing to testify, and there'd be no reason for her to withhold any information. So I don't see any negative in giving her the kind of use immunity that would compel her to testify. So she ought to be summoned in front of a congressional committee," Dershowitz told Fox News.
Maxwell's potential testimony comes as President Trump faces mounting criticism within his MAGA base after his administration's refusal to release the notorious "Epstein files." Trump previously said he would declassify the files during his 2024 campaign.
In response, Trump has labeled the situation a "hoax" orchestrated by the Democratic Party and former President Joe Biden. He has also repeatedly attacked his own supporters, calling them "stupid [and] foolish" for "doing the Democrats' work."
Former Trump officials, including Steve Bannon, Elon Musk, and Lev Parnas, a former associate of Rudy Giuliani, warned that the president's attacks on his base and his ongoing refusal to release the files could harm Republicans' chances for both the 2026 midterm elections and the 2028 presidential election.
