A former aide to Donald Trump suggested the president's recent attacks on his own MAGA allies over the "Epstein files" may be evidence of his mental decline, claiming Trump is "unraveling."
Lev Parnas, a Florida businessman and former associate of Rudy Giuliani, worked closely with Trump's team during his first term in office. In October 2021, Parnas was convicted in U.S. federal court on six counts related to illegal contributions to Trump's 2020 campaign. He was sentenced to 20 months in prison in 2022, three years of supervised release, and ordered to pay $2.32 million in restitution.
Since his early release, Parnas has become a vocal critic of Trump. In a Substack post shared Wednesday, he condemned the president for turning on his own base, which helped get him elected, in part, because of his promise to release the Epstein files and prove he could not be bought or influenced by the rich and powerful.
The 53-year-old former Trump ally pointed to a Truth Social post shared Wednesday in which the former president dismissed the Democratic Party's "new SCAM" as the so-called "Jeffrey Epstein Hoax." Trump claimed that some of his former supporters had fallen for the "bulls--t" and declared he no longer wanted the backing of these "weaklings."
"This was a big mistake," Parnas wrote. "Because something is happening that the media is not reporting. But I've been telling you for months, and now even Trump's closest allies are starting to admit it: the man is unraveling."
"You could call it desperation, cognitive decline, or just plain delusion," he continued. "But when Donald Trump can't remember that he himself nominated Jerome Powell to the Fed—and then blames Joe Biden for it—you know something is deeply wrong. He's so used to blaming Biden for everything, it's now automatic. The economy? Biden's fault. The Epstein files? Biden planted them."
Parnas then pointed to what he called "Quinnipiac's bombshell poll," which showed that 63% of all voters disapprove of Trump's handling of the Epstein issue and that 40% of Republicans are also rejecting his "stonewalling."
"That's not a political hiccup—that's a full-blown revolt inside the base," Parnas declared, adding that the MAGA "cult has fractured" as supporters are "drifting, questioning, waking up." He then urged readers to "stay focused."
"Because underneath the drama, the real goal hasn't changed," Parnas warned. "This is all about the election. This is about power. It's about installing the election reforms buried in Project 2025, led by Stephen Miller and Russell Vought. It's about seizing control of the Department of Justice, gutting the civil service, and rewriting the rules so Trump can stay in office forever."
Trump has repeatedly claimed his team is exploring ways for him to secure a third presidential term despite the 22nd Amendment prohibiting more than two terms. Meanwhile, he is actively promoting his political brand by selling $50 "Trump 2028" hats on the official Trump Store.
