When the Audi R18 e-tron quattro earned its maiden 24 Hours of Le Mans victory, we knew special things were in store for the Ingolstadt automaker's future.
Later this year, Audi fielded its R8 e-tron production based electric sports car on the Nürburgring and set a new world record for the category.
Now, Audi has confirmed that the company aims to introduce "e-tron" models across its vehicle line-up by 2020. According to Audi, its future e-tron models will promise the ability to travel long distances under only electric propulsion. If this 8-year projection proves attainable, then Audi is looking to sell more than 100,000 e-tron examples by 2020, an incomprehensible number.

At the moment, Audi has already developed a number of working prototypes to apply the new e-tron technology all over the world. Upcoming production e-tron development will feature plug-in extended-range hybrids as well.
The very first production e-tron vehicle is slated to be the Audi R8 e-tron, which is scheduled to enter into the market later this year. Two electric motors will serve the latest Audi R8, each appointed to a singuar axle to generate a combined power output of 308-hp and 605 lb.-ft. of torque. It only takes the Audi R8 e-tron 4.6 seconds to go from 0-to-62 mph (100 kmh) and it will be capable of reaching a top speed of 124 mph as well. Audi claims that its R8 e-tron will be capable of an 134 mile range in one charge.
