The ‘Big Bang Theory' Finale Recap: How Did Penny And Leonard Say Goodbye? What Was Raj’s Big Surprise? [VIDEO]

Last night CBS aired the season finale of the popular comedy the "Big Bang Theory." It was an emotional episode filled with tears and good-byes.

Leonard and Penny had to say goodbye after Leonard is offered a job working on Stephen Hawking's team in the North Sea; The job will take Leonard away for four months. While sad her "little homunculus" (reference from an earlier season) will be leaving, Penny knows Leonard can't turn down this opportunity.

At Leonard's going away party, Bernadette tries to help Leonard and Penny feel better about missing one another. She tells them getting married helped her not to miss Howard too much when he was in space. Penny and Leonard awkwardly look at each other and then switch topics.

During the goodbye scene of the episode, Penny takes Leonard to the airport and they tell each other "I love you," while Sheldon freaks out because Penny is parked in the red zone.

"Don't worry officer they just love each other we're not smuggling drugs," Sheldon shouts to a police officer at the airport.

Earlier in the episode Raj was trying to figure out a way to help his social anxiety ridden girlfriend to meet his friends. He decides to try it one person at a time and begins by introducing Lucy to the group's newest member, Amy.

Dinner with Raj, Amy and Lucy doesn't go as planned and Lucy ends up locking herself in the bathroom -- her go to safety place when she is feeling over anxious. Raj decided that a one-on-one meet may be too stressful and invites Lucy to Leonard's going away party.

Lucy never shows and instead Raj gets a break up text. Penny goes to check on him after dropping Leonard at the airport. The two snuggle up and have a long talk and Penny tells him the alcohol he was drinking is making him worse.

"I haven't had a drink since last night," Raj tells Penny.

They are both overjoyed when they realize Raj has finally gotten over his fear of speaking to women and doesn't need alcohol to have a conversation with Penny, Amy and Bernadette.

The episode ends with Raj chatting away while Penny, Bernadette and Amy stare at him wondering if he'll ever shut up.

New episodes of the Big Band Theory will return to CBS this fall.
