It’s no secret that Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie are still finalizing their divorce as they’re still undecided on how to divide their enormous £500M fortune, as well as come up with an agreement on the custody of their kids. But there might be another potential battleground for the exes — they are now reportedly bent on besting each other at the box office.

The recent Pitt-Jolie scoop came from Australian publication Woman’s Day, as reported by Gossip Cop. In an article published on Aug. 5 titled “Ange & Brad Go Head To Head At The Box Office,” Woman’s Day claims that “the exes are desperately trying to top each other” based on the commercial successes of their films.

“It’s a case of anything you can do, I can do better,” the magazine quoted a supposed insider. The suspicious tipster then went on to say that while Pitt might seem ahead career-wise at the moment with the recent release of his film, Jolie is catching up fast.

“Brad’s hit the ground running with Once Upon a Time in Hollywood and now Ange has signed up for the Marvel films,” the source said. “But Brad is already hunting for the next bigger and better project to overshadow her.”

But Gossip Cop wrote that the “article is completely fabricated.” The site contacted a reliable source close to Pitt, who explained that the actor isn’t really choosing projects with the intention of beating Jolie’s films in the box office.

The story got it right, though, when it mentioned that Jolie will be joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Specifically, the actress was tapped to play the role of Thena in the upcoming film “The Eternals.” However, Jolie did not choose the role to compete with her ex-husband’s career, according to Gossip Cop, which got in touch with the actress’ camp.

Pitt and Jolie’s kids are very excited that their mom bagged the superhero role. “What’s really moving to me is that they want to see me strong, and so it’s less to see me in a film, but they’re just happy I will be strong and having fun,” the actress said.

“She’s a warrior,” Jolie described her character, Thena. She will be joining a powerhouse cast that includes Salma Hayek as Ajak, Richard Madden as Ikaris, Lia McHugh as Sprite, Lauren Ridloff as Makkari, Brian Tyree Henry as Phastos, Kumail Nanjiani as Kingo and Don Lee as Gilgamesh. “The Eternals” is set for release on the big screen on Nov. 6, 2020.
