Rumors about Lady Gaga starring with Bradley Cooper in “Nightmare Alley” surfaced weeks ago, but it wasn’t until last weekend that the rumor was finally busted. Cate Blanchett, not Lady Gaga, is playing the female lead in the movie, according to recent reports.

Since Lady Gaga and Cooper starred together in “A Star Is Born,” fans of the duo have been hoping to see them together again in a movie. When reports about Cooper top billing Guillermo Del Toro’s remake of the 1947 movie “Nightmare Alley” surfaced, Lady Gaga was the first name rumored to play the female lead.

In June, bogus reports surfaced claiming that Lady Gaga and Jennifer Lawrence were fighting over the female lead role in the movie, with both actresses actively campaigning to score the part. However, Gossip Cop debunked the reports and dismissed them as concocted simply because both Gaga and Lawrence previously starred with Cooper on the big screen.

Before Lady Gaga starred with Cooper in the remake of “A Star Is Born,” Lawrence starred alongside Cooper in multiple films, including “Silver Linings Playbook,” “American Hustle,” “Joy” and “Serena.” Despite that, it’s not true that Lady Gaga and Lawrence ever competed to co-star with Cooper in his upcoming film.

Last weekend, it was finally confirmed that Blanchett, not Lady Gaga or Lawrence, nabbed the role. The actress previously starred in “Thor: Ragnarok,” “Ocean’s 8,” “The House With A Clock In Its Walls,” “Mowgli: Legend Of The Jungle,” “The Hobbit” film series and “The Lord Of The Rings” trilogy, to name a few.

Written by Kim Morgan, “Nightmare Alley” tells the story of Stanton Carlisle from William Lindsay Gresham’s novel of the same name. It will center on the rise and fall of a con man who passes himself off as a psychic. In the film, Stanton Carlisle will team up with corrupt carnival mentalist Zeena Krumbein to prey upon unsuspecting customers with their double act. Production on the film will kick off in early 2020.

Meanwhile, Delo Toro has reportedly been trying to complete the lineup of the cast for the movie for months now. In April, the director was said to have hooked Leonardo DiCaprio for the role, but the actor passed and Cooper moved into his place.
