"Breaking Bad" fans beware a spinoff is coming! AMC and Sony Pictures Television have confirmed "Better Call Saul," following a licensing agreement with "Breaking Bad" creator Vince Gilligan. The aptly named spinoff revolves around the popular character of Saul Goodman. Saul is a criminal lawyer and can be easily found in the yellow pages of Albuquerque, notable for his low-budget television commercials, where he advertises mainly under the tagline "Better Call Saul!" Saul became a regular character on "Breaking Bad" during Season 2 when Walt and Jesse contact Saul for legal representation to keep Badger out of jail.

The new series is currently planned to begin as a one-hour prequel in which fans will learn about the evolution of Saul long before he ever became Walter White's lawyer. The possibility of a Saul Goodman spinoff was revealed last April, and considering the amassing interest and recent rating spike in "Breaking Bad," AMC is now taking advantage of the intrigued and dedicated audience. Gilligan and "Breaking Bad" writer, Peter Gould who is credited with the original creation of Saul's character, are developing the "Better Call Saul" series.

Gilligan told Yahoo! TV that while the series will be a prequel to "Breaking Bad" it will also be Saul's journey to becoming the lawyer-for-all occasions that has become an iconic character. The series will show how he got there, what led him to the change, and really why he is there. In April Gilligan revealed that much of Saul's series is still being decided upon, "So we just have to figure out exactly what kind of story we're telling. Is it a story about his creation of his own character? Because Saul Goodman, as he explains in his first episode, is not his real name. He is a self-created character, much like Heisenberg. Do we tell the story of his origins? We're still trying to hash that out. But there are a lot of fun possibilities."

In May it was still undecided whether Saul's story would be a prequel to the events in "Breaking Bad" or a sequel, however it seems that they have reached a conclusion. "I like to think of Saul as a cockroach in the best possible way," Gilligan told Vulture. "This is a guy who's going to survive while the rest of us have been nuked into annihilation. He'll be the worst-dressed cockroach in the world," and while this may seem as comforting for fans that are rooting for Saul's survival, it may also mean that Saul's fate on "Breaking Bad" is in question now that his new series is indeed a prequel to the story.
