Earning impressive victories in the men's curling semifinals at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia, Team Canada and Great Britain are now making their final preparations ahead of what should shape up to be an extremely entertaining Gold medal match. Great Britain was hot and cold throughout the qualification and tiebreak stages, claiming tight wins over Denmark (8-6), Russia (7-4), Germany (7-6), Switzerland (4-2), Team USA (5-3) and Norway (6-5 tiebreaker) while also suffering tough losses to Sweden, China, Norway and Canada. Moving past the talented Norwegians and into the semifinals, Great Britain guaranteed themselves a medal with a narrow triumph over the Sweden National curling team. Though the process leading up to the gold medal match has been enjoyable, skip David Murdoch understand that his team needs to remain focused leading into the battle with Canada.

“I cannot describe the feeling, just incredible" Murdoch said after the 6-5 semifinal victory over Sweden. "We have trained so hard for this and made a lot of sacrifices and it has paid off. You always believe and work hard, beating yourself up in training to be here. I am so proud of the guys and we have worked tirelessly for the last few years. We'll have a day to think about our gameplan against Canada. We just need to keep doing what we're doing.”

Landing top honor at the 2014 Winter Games will certainly be a tough task for Great Britain, especially since the team has already suffered through a grueling loss to Team Canada earlier in the tournament. Falling 7-5 to their championship opponents back on February 15, Great Britain will now be tasked with the challenge of defeating a Canadian squad that was only beaten twice during the opening rounds. Canada dropped a 5-4 decision to Switzerland on February 10 and suffered another defeat at the hands of Sweden the next day and even though the stage is now magnified, Canada skip Brad Jacobs isn't worried about the pressure.

“We have played a ton of big games together in the last two years," Jacobs said. “And I really think our experience in those big, nerve-wracking important games helped us out today.”
