Halloween is the official start to the holiday season. By this time tomorrow there will be Thanksgiving commercials and Christmas sales. One of the best things about the holidays is the broadcasting of beloved holiday specials and for many that means watching Charlie Brown, Linus, Lucky, Snoopy and Woodstock in the many "Peanuts" specials. Tonight at 8pm ET, ABC will air the Halloween classic "It's the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown!" The Halloween "Peanuts" special first aired almost 50 years ago in 1966.

Charlie Brown and his loveable best friend, a beagle named Snoopy are two of the most recognizable cartoon characters in the world. Both characters are so beloved they were given their own balloons in the annual Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. The annual "Peanuts" special "It's The Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown!" follows the "Peanuts" gang as they go trick or treating. All but Linus join the fun as he plans to spend the night waiting in the pumpkin patch. Why would a kid do that you ask? Well to meet the one and only Great Pumpkin.

According to Linus, the Great Pumpkin will rise out of the pumpkin patch on Halloween night to distribute toys to all the good boys and girls. Linus waits and waits with Sally all night in the pumpkin patch and is shocked by what he sees. Meanwhile, poor Charlie Brown is having a pretty bad Halloween. The kid that Charles Shultz said represented every child at some point in their lives is given only a rock each time he rings a doorbell. The "Peanuts" Halloween special will air tonight on ABC. In December, ABC will air the next feature in the Charlie Brown collection "A Charlie Brown Christmas."
