Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo is the reigning FIFA Ballon d’Or winner and arguably the greatest player on the planet. The Portuguese striker currently is under contract with Los Blancos until 2018, but rumor has it he’s interested in playing in the MLS during the twilight of his career.
According to Sports Illustrated’s soccer writer, Grant Wahl, Ronaldo has told those close to him that he would welcome a move to the MLS after his contract expires with Real Madrid. Ronaldo would be 33 years old at that time, and presumably be coming off the 2018 World Cup in Russia. Sources told Wahl that Ronaldo would like to play for either the Los Angeles Galaxy or the New York City Football Club at that time. He also said that if an expansion team were started in Miami, he would be interested in playing for them as well.
The 30-year-old soccer star has scored 207 goals for Real Madrid and helped Los Blancos bring home virtually every single piece of hardware possible. From La Liga championships, to Spanish Cups, to UEFA Champions League crowns, there isn’t a single piece of silver that Ronaldo hasn’t won.
At this point, Ronaldo’s potential move to the MLS is mostly conjecture. We reported previously, that Ronaldo was interested in re-joining Manchester United when his current contract with Real Madrid expired, so anything is possible at this point. We’ll keep you posted on if and when the MLS Ronaldo sweepstakes begin.
