Camilla Parker Bowles and Prince Charles finally got married in 2005, but they have been in a lot of controversies before they got to this stage. They may be each other’s true love, but people hate them for being together because they famously cheated on Princess Diana.

Camilla and Prince Charles were believed to have first met at a polo match in Windsor Great Park in 1970. It was love at first sight for the prince, but it was not for the then 23-year-old blond. So the Prince of Wales pursued her, and they dated until he had to leave for the Royal Navy in 1971.

With the separation, the couple faced a big obstacle as Camilla started to see other men. She was known to have had many lovers while Prince Charles was serving in the navy, and in July 1973 she married cavalry officer Andrew Parker Bowles.

Before her marriage, it was said that Camilla sent a letter to Prince Charles, and that note really broke his heart. The then 24-year-old prince was said to be devastated as his lover informed him about her engagement and upcoming marriage.

According to royal biographer Penny Junor, Queen Elizabeth’s son, who was stationed in the Caribbean at that time, finds it very cruel for Camilla to send him that kind of letter. Junor revealed this detail through her book “ The Duchess: The Untold Story.”

“He fired off anguished letters to his nearest and dearest,” Junor wrote in her book. “It seemed to him particularly cruel, he wrote in one letter, that after such a blissful, peaceful and mutual happy relationship, fate had decreed that it should last a mere six months.”

The biographer added that Prince Charles lamented the fact that he had no one to go back to in England anymore, but he also realized that the feeling of emptiness will eventually pass. However, the prince never got over Camilla, and he even tried to stop her from marrying Andrew by writing to her a week before the wedding. But his effort proved useless.

Years after, Prince Charles was said to have been forced to ditch his relationship with Camilla in order to marry Princess Diana in 1981. Unfortunately, their fairytale wedding ended in divorce in 1996, and by this time the Duchess of Cornwall was already divorced for a year as well.

Prince Charles and Camilla finally tied the knot in 2005, and the wedding took place at Windsor Guildhall. Prince William and Harry also attended the civil wedding, together with Camilla's children.
