The love story of Prince Charles and Camilla Parker Bowles is one for the books. Although all fingers were pointed at him when his marriage to Princess Diana fell apart, the Prince of Wales stood up for Camilla and even married him years later. Since many people believed that Camilla only wanted Prince Charles to fulfill her dream of becoming a royal, many wonder if she actually signed a prenuptial agreement with the Prince of Wales when they tied the knot.

While signing a prenup agreement was the wisest thing to do to protect his assets at that time, Prince Charles refused to do so. In 2005, Prince Charles made headlines after he allegedly rejected legal advice to draw up such an agreement with Camilla 12 days before their royal wedding.

According to reports, Prince Charles ignored his lawyers and insisted that there would be no prenup with Camilla. Despite the unequivocal nature of the advice, Prince Charles still chose to dismiss the idea that he must safeguard his assets in case his second marriage failed.

His lawyers reportedly told him that it would be in his interest to sign a prenup agreement with Camilla as far in advance of their wedding as possible since courts look unfavorably on agreements that are drawn up just before a wedding. However, Prince Charles did not take heed of the legal advice and married Camilla without a prenup.

Prince Charles reportedly received the legal advice sometime in March 2005, shortly after he announced his intention to marry his longtime mistress on April 8 of that year. While prenup agreements are not legally binding, divorce courts consider them as valid. That is why to ensure that his assets remain intact in case his marriage to Camilla fails, Prince Charles’ lawyers advised him to sign one with Camilla.

A friend of Prince Charles revealed that the prince had placed his full trust in Camilla when he married her, hence his decision to not sign the agreement. “There is no prenup. He is adamant that the marriage has to be based from the start on trust and good faith,” the source said.
