An Ohio mom, who was reported missing for the past two weeks, was discovered dead in the trunk of her car on Sunday. Melinda Kay Davis’s disappearance since February 25 was brought to the Columbus police’s notice after a citizen alerted cops about the same.

A week-long search ended after her body was found in the trunk of her car, which was part of an apartment complex in Galloway. The Richland County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the incident during a news conference, while court documents indicate that the crime occurred on a day she chose to see her ex-boyfriend, John H. Mack Jr. Davis had allegedly dropped a word to her friend and suggested that she reach out to the cops if she hadn’t heard from her afterward.

Mack Jr., 43, was soon nabbed and faces a charge of kidnapping Davis on Feb. 26, a day after she was last seen. He was apprehended shortly after – on March 4 – in Mansfield by the U.S. Marshals Service after the team raided into his apartment and discovered blood that’s believed to be Davis’.

Investigators then traced Davis’ car parked at Lehnert Green apartments in Galloway, less than a mile from where Mack was employed as a truck driver. A witness further averred that she had seen the car on Feb. 27 and videotaped the same, which captured the Jetta in the background.

“I get in my car to smoke a lot of times,” said Tiffany Kyser to the Mansfield News Journal. “What if she was alive and I was right there?” she added, rueing over her lack of proactiveness that could’ve saved a life.“What could I have done?” said Kyser. “She was right beside me,” she added. An autopsy is likely to be conducted on Davis’ body to unravel the truth behind the crime.

Mack, who is in custody on a $1 million bond, has pleaded not guilty to the kidnapping charge. Bishop also hinted at the possibility of additional charges being filed against him, as reported in "New York Post".

“He remains charged with kidnapping,” Bishop told reporters. “He’s also charged with receiving stolen property for an unrelated matter. Obviously, the charges and the number of charges will be determined at a later date once this investigation is fully completed,” he added. Investigators are yet to determine the nature, time, and cause of her death.
