A 35-year-old man who was found wearing a police uniform in public has been arrested after real cops learned he was a fake.

The man, a native of Mathura district in India’s Uttar Pradesh was arrested on Tuesday, July 13, after police officers got suspicious of him during routine checking.

"The man has been identified as Krishnaveer Singh. Singh was held on Tuesday evening during a check by officials of Ecotech 3 police station when he was in a police uniform, but appeared suspicious," The Times of India quoted the Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central Noida), Ankur Aggarwal, as saying.

"When his mobile phone was checked, the police found his pictures in police uniform and Army uniform as well. The local police soon found out that he was illegally donning the uniforms," he said.

According to the officer, the suspect had previously tried to get recruited into the force but failed. However, he hid the fact from his family members and continued to pretend to be a police officer.

The suspect, who was living in Surajpur, Greater Noida, would reportedly roam around on the streets wearing the police uniform.

The official confirmed that the man was arrested and a case has been registered at the Ecotech 3 police station. The charges imposed on the suspect are unclear at this time.

The police are investigating to find out whether the suspect has used the uniform to engage in any other illegal activity.

This is an ongoing investigation and no further details were available at this time.

In a similar but unrelated incident, two inmates of Nabha’s high-security jail in the Patiala district of Punjab were arrested for running a fake website in the name of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF).

The accused inmates have been identified as Aman Kumar and Sunil Kalra,

"It came fore that they were planning to run a fake recruitment drive by charging ₹500 per volunteer. The website looked so real that even national signages and other links were copied," said Nabha Kotwali SHO Surinder Bhalla, the Hindustan Times reported.

The incident came to light when officers received information that a cell phone number was being illegally used from inside the jail.

The police learned that Aman was the one using the phone. He was interrogated during which he confessed to running a fake website along with Sunil, the SHO said.

The investigators found that Aman had contacted a woman and introduced himself as an IPS officer working in the SDRF.

"He also sent his photographs in police uniform to her to win her trust. The woman along with her brother, who is a website developer, prepared a website for Aman without knowing that they were falling into a trap. They arranged hosts so that the website could work for at least a year," the SHO said.

A case under Sections 170 (personating a public servant), 419 (cheating by personation), 420 (cheating) of the Indian Penal Code, and other sections of the Information Technology (IT) Act and the Prisons Act has been registered.
